Just One Catch...

A small theatre company snags a Chicago premiere of a new play that got much buzz due to a major star's participation in the New York production.

They are just about to open when they have to start calling the local press they have invited. It seems they just noticed a clause in the contract Samuel French issued them...

No reviews are allowed.

Timeout Chicago has the story here.

Could be a portent of the future. It could become quite possible to market productions without any reviews at all, it seems to me; after all, isn't that the reality many productions are facing anyway? If the odds of a good review are long, producers may decide a critical response isn't worth the risk.
